“Sometimes I Lie” by Alice Feeney

Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney

I just finished reading “Sometimes I Lie”, by Alice Feeney. This book came very highly recommended by so many people and I was very excited to read it. It started off very mysteriously, the narrative shifting from the present to the future to the past. Intersperced in the story was a journal which didn’t have an author, so the reader was left to figure it out.
The main character in the story is Amber and her sister Claire. They are both married, and Amber suffers a car accident where she ends up in a coma in the hospital. Her visitors include her husband Paul and her sister Claire, and there is an air of mystery around them. There also enters a horrible character named Edward who is absolutely evil and awful.
The story revolves around the unhealthy relationship of the two sisters. The reader never really knows whether the sisters are good or evil, and the question remains, even at the end.
The ending includes alot of mystery and suspense and a final page that leaves the reader mystified and even more confused. Who really is Amber? And who really is Claire? If you like psychological thrillers, with unresolved questions, then this is the book for you.
It is very well written and incredibly creative, but make sure you are paying attention to the dates and characters while you are reading or else you will find yourself having to re-read some chapters.
I did like this book, but found the character of Edward absolutely despicable and I am not sure why he had to be included in the story. Edward and the ending (I like things tied up nicely at the end) are the reasons I can’t give this book five stars.
Maybe…just maybe…there is a sequel in the works? The ending sure does call for one. Anyways…A book I will not soon forget…
Happy Reading Everyone.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
