I just finished reading “Should Have Told You Sonner” by Jane Ward. Many thanks to NetGalley and Stable Book Group for an advanced copy in return for an honest review.
This book is aptly named because it is all about regret and longing and missed opportunities not just from the main character Noel, but from all the other characters as well. This book teaches the reader to take risks and do the hard things before the chance slips away and changes your life in ways you may not want. The story follows Noel who is sent to England to study Art and falls in love with Bryn Jones, another artist and they plan a future together. Then Bryn is offered an opportunity to go to Italy and Noel supports his decision and off he goes….but he doesn’t. Heartbroken Noel leaves and returns home but….she has a secret that she doesn’t or cant tell Bryn.
Fast forward thirty years…Noel is living in America and she is given the chance to go to London for six weeks where she meets a young artist named Henry and….runs into Bryn….again.
Regrets, unspoken words….secrets are revealed at a good pace and …..what happens next is for the reader to find out.
I liked the characters (well most of them anyway…the ex-husband was a jerk), and i liked the story line. I was intrigued by some of the characters but I did figure out the secret before it was revealed.
All in all, it was a good book, filled with enough mystery, emotion and romance to keep me reading to the end. Not too long…not to short. It was just right….and the ending….very clever
